Akhirnya tuntas sudah saga transfer pemain Arsenal, Francesc Fabregas. Pemain yang dikabarkan akan hengkang ke Barcelona sejak 3 musim lalu ini pada akhirnya resmi menjadi pemain Barça kemarin. Sebelumnya Barça melakukan berbagai macam upaya untuk memboyong Cesç (sapaan akrab Fabregas) ke Barça. Seluruh elemen yang berada di klub bergerak untuk merayu Cesç yang merupakan produk asli akademi FC Barcelona, La Masia. Mulai dari Top Management Level yang menawarkan transfer fee menggiurkan sampai pemain - pemain yang merupakan kawan dekat yang merayunya untuk segera bergabung.

Aksi pemain Barça yang paling menyita perhatian adalah ketika Xavi Hernandez berbicara tentang pernderitaan yang dialami  Cesç akhir - akhir ini  di Arsenal. Xavi dan Fabregas bertemu di Ibiza, sebuah tempat wisata pantai paling terkenal di Spanyol. Arsene Wenger, manajer Arsenal, yang mengetahui komentar Xavi tersebut dan  akhirnya membalas dengan menyebut bahwa kapten Barça tersebut tidak menghormati Arsenal. Buntut dari permasalahan ini, Barça berjanji akan melakukan pendekatan yang lebih etis guna memboyong Fabregas ke Nou Camp. 

Selain Xavi, pemain yang paling aktif  merayu Fabregas adalah duet defender Barça Gerrard Pique dan Carles Puyol. Saat Barcelona berada di markas Arsenal untuk menjalani pemusatan latihan Final Liga Champions 2011, Pique dan Puyol berfoto dengan foto besar Cesç berseragam Arsenal untuk merayunya agar bergabung dengan Barça. Foto itu menunukan kalau Fabregas adalah pemain yang memang diinginkan dan dibutuhkan Barça selama ini. Selain itu dalam pesta perayaan Spanyol saat menjuarai Piala Dunia 2010, Puyol dengan bergurau sengaja memakaikan jersey  Barça ke Fabregas. Aksi ini sontak menjadi HOT News dikalangan media. Hampir seluruh media saat itu menilai bahwa setelah Piala Dunia 2010 berakhir, Fabregas adalah pemain Barcelona.

Terakhir yang kembali mengundang spekulasi adalah tidak dibawanya Fabregas dalam tur pramusim Arsenal di Asia. Tidak dibawanya pemain sekaliber Cesç yang selama ini menjadi sosok penting dan roh permainan Arsenal tentu mengundang tanya. Dari sini pemberitaan seputar transfer Cesç ke Barcelonapun semakin gencar, namun Arsene Wenger masih tetap yakin bahwa Cesç akan bertahan. Dan keinginan Wenger untuk mempertahankan Fabregas bukanlah isapan jempol belaka. Wenger memasukan nama Fabregas ke dalam daftar pemain yang akan tampil di play off  Liga Chamions kontra Udinese. Jika sampai bermain, menurut aturan UEFA, maka Fabregas tak akan bisa bermain di Liga Champions bersama Barcelona karena sudah pernah bermain bersama Arsenal di musim yang sama. Cara ini diharapkan bisa menyurutkan langkah Barcelona untuk memboyong Cesç ke Nou Camp.

Spekulasi kembali berlanjut ketika melalui akun twitter, tiga pemain Barça nge-tweet: 

 "cesc4official. Akhirnya, dia ke sini!" tweet Gerrard Pique

Sambutan juga diberikan Puyol, "Selamat datang!!! Senang melihat Anda ke sini cesc4official ooohhhh."

Dalam sebuah keterangan pers, kiper Barca Victor Valdes juga menyambut gembira kedatangan Fabregas. "Bila itu benar, ini akan menjadi kabar bagus. Dia adalah sahabat dan juga fans Barca," katanya.

"Bukan saya yang memutuskan, Tapi meski belum resmi tapi transfernya sudah makin dekat. Bila memang sudah resmi bergabung, saya tentu bahagia," jawab Valdes.

Senin 15 Agustus 2011 WIB, Francesç Fábregas akhirnya menjalani tes medis di Barcelona dan beberapa saat kemudian diperkenalkan secara resmi sebagai pemain FC Barcelona dengan dana transfer mencapai 40juta euro. Di Barcelona Fabregas diberikan jesney bernomor punggung 4 dan dikontrak sampai 2016 dengan buy out clause mencapai 200 juta uero.
